Here in America it is the "normal" style of house, and I can only think this is because they were originally designed as toys for little children. My Lovely Old Dollhouse was built by my Grandfather when I was little, and I have always wanted to add a fourth wall to "close" it! I still might figure out how to do that someday! As for the weaknesses of the plywood, it is one of the things that make the kits so "cheap"! They are really rather small and hard to arrange furnishings inside, but they rely on a lot of "charm" and "curb appeal" with the exterior ornamentation. I have not looked into how difficult (or easy) it would be to get the English style kits here, but I have always liked the idea of being able to close the house up!
